WHAT IT IS:

The PSAT/NMSQT (Preliminary SAT/National Merit Semifinalist Qualifying Test) is a standardized exam taken as a practice SAT and the first step in the National Merit Scholarship process. It is made up of Evidence-Based Reading and Writing and Math sections.

The test composite score is on a scale of 320-1520, with 920 being the national average. Your composite score is the total of your Evidence-Based Reading and Writing and Math scaled scores.

Over $180,000,000 in college scholarships is given each year to National Merit Scholars. If you believe that you are a candidate for this scholarship opportunity, please call us right away so we can help you assess your scores.

WHEN TO TAKE IT:

Given in October, the PSAT is only offered once a year; however, schools have the option of offering it on either a designated Wednesday or Saturday. Please contact your college guidance counselor for your district’s PSAT test date.  The qualification for National Merit Semifinalist takes place during a student’s junior year, but some may elect to take it during their sophomore year as a practice opportunity.

HOW WE APPROACH PREP:

One-on-one PSAT prep is one of our most popular offerings for rising Juniors. With a long list of National Merit Semifinalists in our history, our one-on-one preparation has a track record of proven results.

PSAT preparation can be approached in a few ways. While some students prefer to start their prep about 8 weeks before the test, others choose to start prep the summer between their Sophomore and Junior years. All of our PSAT tutors use Dr. Kleitz’s approach to test preparation, which brings together the student with a single tutor, one who is exceedingly proficient in every subject area of the test. Students and tutors meet once a week, for one hour, and students can expect 2-3 hours of homework each time they meet. Every student is different, and our team works hard to make sure we can provide a unique preparation plan and schedule for each student based on their schedules and test preparation needs.

Please contact us for your free evaluation! Our office staff is available to answer any test or preparation related questions and provide you with professional recommendations.

HOW TO REGISTER:

You must register for the PSAT through your school. Please speak with your college guidance counselor for more details.
