ACT

What it is:

The ACT is a standardized entrance exam accepted by most colleges and universities to aid in admission decisions. The test consists of four required sections, English, Math, Reading, and Science, as well as an optional Writing section. The four main sections consist of multiple-choice questions to be answered on a provided scantron sheet.

The test is scored on a scale of 1-36, with a 19.9 being about the national average. Your ACT composite score is the average of each of your four section scores.

When to take it:

Offered in September, October, December, February, April, June, and July*, there are many chances to take the test. These national administrations occur on Saturday mornings, however non-Saturday options are available for those who cannot test due to religious reasons. Extended time testers should communicate with their administrator to determine test dates.

*Please note that certain states do not offer the test in July. The complete list of testing dates can be found here.

How we approach prep:

One-on-one ACT tutoring is our most popular offering. With an average score improvement of nearly four times the national average, our tailored approach provides results that speak for themselves.

Preparation generally starts 8 to 10 weeks in advance of each test, depending on a student’s individual needs. All of our ACT tutors use Dr. Kleitz’s approach to test preparation, which brings together the student with a single tutor, one who is exceedingly proficient in every subject area of the test. Students and tutors meet once a week, for one hour, and students can expect 2-3 hours of homework each time they meet. Every student is different, and our team works hard to make sure we can provide a unique preparation plan and schedule for each student based on their schedules and test preparation needs.
